This flexibility is essential for schools that may have different requirements depending on the nature of the trip.
Types of Educational Trips Ideal for Coach Hire
When considering school coach hire near me, it’s essential to recognize the various types of educational trips that benefit from professional transportation services. Here are some common scenarios where hiring a coach is advantageous:
1. Theatre Trips
Attending a live performance can be an enriching experience for students. Whether it’s a school play, a touring production, or a trip to a major theatre, having reliable transport ensures that everyone arrives together and on time. Coaches provide a comfortable setting for students to discuss the performance and build excitement before the show.
2. Museum and Exhibition Outings
Educational trips to museums and exhibitions offer students the opportunity to engage with history, science, and art in an interactive environment. Coaches make it easy to transport large groups to these venues, ensuring that students can focus on learning rather than logistics. With ample luggage space, there’s room for any materials needed for the trip.
3. Sports Days and Away Fixtures
For schools participating in sports days or away fixtures, reliable transportation is crucial. Coaches can accommodate large teams, along with their equipment, ensuring everyone arrives at the event ready to compete. The comfort of a coach ride can also help ease pre-competition nerves, allowing students to arrive relaxed and focused.
4. Theme Park Excursions
A trip to a theme park can be an exciting reward for students. Coaches are perfect for transporting large groups to these destinations, with enough space for everyone’s belongings. The convenience of hiring a coach eliminates the need for parents to coordinate multiple vehicles, making the day more enjoyable for everyone involved.
5. School Ski Trips and Holiday Excursions
For schools planning ski trips or holiday excursions, using a professional coach service ensures that students are transported safely and comfortably. Long journeys can be tiring, but with the right amenities, passengers can enjoy the ride and arrive at their destination ready to take part in activities.
How to Choose the Right School Coach Hire Service
Finding the right school coach hire near me involves careful consideration of several factors. Here are some essential tips to ensure you choose the best service for your educational trip:

4. Request Detailed Quotes
When contacting potential coach hire companies, request detailed quotes that outline all costs associated with the hire. This will help you understand the overall budget and avoid any unexpected expenses. A transparent pricing structure is a good indicator of a reputable company.
5. Read Customer Reviews
Before making a decision, take the time to read customer reviews and testimonials. Feedback from other schools can provide valuable insights into the quality of service and reliability of the coach hire company.
6. Communicate Specific Needs
When discussing your trip with the coach hire provider, communicate any specific requirements you may have. This could include special accommodations for students with disabilities, dietary restrictions for meals, or specific timings for pick-up and drop-off. A good coach hire service will work with you to ensure all needs are met.
Booking Your School Coach Hire

It was always odd for you, no matter what it was rough coming back to the college after a day full of classes, it’s like coming back to take in more knowledge then your brain already gathered in its capacity and the freshness of the floors and clean janitorial supplies had filled your nostrils as you walked into the main entrance with your hands gently gripping the brown bag with the large golden arches of the fast food place you stopped by with Kate before coming back. After getting practice information, too chilly in the air to go outside on the school fields that Stark ensures is clean and prepped for anything, anything, like the one time you saw your neighbor Brooke step on the field to go a ball that was overthrown he lost his shit and yelled at your former coach, Maria.
You loved Maria dearly; she was there since you were a freshman and stayed with you until you were a senior to where she decided to focus on her own family and to spend time after the harsh work ours and the stress she endured from parents and family friends snapping at her like a dog that should be bound to listen. That was the thing you liked about the coach, Maria never stepped down. Hard-headed with a short temper that got along with you just perfectly, she was the mother you never felt was there when you grew up with the harshness of family arguments that left you excluded without feeling any parental love. Maybe that’s why you haven’t found yourself a healthy relationship yet, but nevertheless you knew someone was there for you. Maybe.
“Hill isn’t here to call us fat,” The solemn voice of Kate broke the silence as your hand that isn’t holding the bag of food you ordered clutched onto the strap that held your bat bag together, a wave of sadness brushed over your eyes before quietly added on, “She’ll still do it in spirit, trust me,” A small snicker left both of your lips, it was hard to think about but you hoped that this new coach would bring the team back together from the grief of Maria’s loss. Heading over towards the gym as you heard the soft shuffle of sneakers on the other side of the doors as you leaned your hips forward and pushed against the bar to hear the creaking of the hinges and the familiar sound of voices in the smaller area where your sport was designated. Stark, the athletic director, had found himself more amused in the sport of football and track, and then recently volleyball due to them winning state had you nothing more than annoyed that softball had nowhere close to his heart like it was to you. It wasn’t fair, the uniforms were either too tight or too loose. Freshman year you had a button missing and it showed you cleavage too much to your liking which had you losing your mind and trying to focus on getting better to work harder for the achievement of getting a better chance at doing something right.
You moved to go settle near the bleachers, setting the bag of food down before slipping the bag that held your very heart onto the floor as a loud clunk was heard against the flooring. As your head mindlessly reached into the bag to slip one of the crispy and hot fries in between your pointer and your thumb a familiar hand was met with your ass. Your eyes had slid to the corners to get a look of the familiar brunette you had bonded with while growing up before sputtering out, beating the request Brooklynn was about to make, “If you wanted a fry you can ask for one,” The teasing lilt of your tone was clear, it was an antic you two kept for many years. You handed her the bag, letting the blonde dig for the scraps as you already ate most of the greasy food in the car, nose scrunching as you made a move to slide off the crocs and bending down to grab your tennis shoes to slide over your feet.
What you didn’t catch is the sound of the door creaking open for a tall and muscular redhead to send daggers right at the two of you when the silly action was made; Natasha had her eyes set on you after your friend slapped your ass, it wasn’t the fact the redhead had looked over your school profile after seeing you at tryouts. You were nothing but adorable, kind-hearted and having a hard work ethic that she took interest in. Not only were you picked on the varsity team due to your skills, but the hidden attraction she had got in the single day when she was watching you help the younger classmen on how tryouts run. She wasn’t a pervert–she was for you–but her eyes had slowly grazed over the exposed plush of your thighs as your shorts had ridden up when you bent over before clearing her throat and letting her presence be known as she called out, “Make sure to do your warm-ups ladies, we did nominate Y/N to be your team captain, I should be seeing her leading stretches!” You had finished tying your laces when Natasha called out, letting out a soft huff as your cheeks puffed as your elbow got nudged by the brunette that was beside you before you briefly explained the process of stretching. You always liked running around the perimeter of the gym at least once to get your legs going then stretching in a group, collaboration was key. At least to you, listening to the conversations around you as you took in the drama and gossip. Head twisting to get a look back at the coach, eyes fixating on Natasha for a hot minute. Eyeing the redheads biceps before looking back over, stretching out your thighs as you release a quiet grumble.
“If you’re warm go ahead and head towards the coach,” Your head reeled as you moved over to the familiar group you hang around with; Kate, Brooklyn and then Monica. Hanging back a little bit as the redheaded coach counted over numbers on who's there. Your eyes had followed Natasha’s movements until she leaned over and grabbed your softball bat from your bag, brows creasing as a scoff bubbled from your throat as she went to each station. Due to being indoors it was hard to do fielding; with balls bouncing due to Stark’s rule of softies and with how the floor is it’s hard to estimate bounces. You were one to easily anticipate when you were hitting on practice days and when you are not, after boringly going through the stations on what to do to get better like your team was a part of rec ball again until you watched Romanoff’s arm stretch and hand it off towards you.
You don’t know why you hesitated; was it the way that the redheads plump lips smirked at you? No she wasn’t, yes she was. She was directly looking at you with a smirk on her face and your eyes had captured the small freckles that adorned her skin before your palm extended and gripped the handle of the bat before pulling it towards you to rest on your side. It wasn’t until an arm had slid into yours as you were dragged off to your softball bag to get your gloves, it was a necessity. Even hitting the ball too hard in the cold will get your hands to cramp horribly, it hurt the first time you went up to bat without them and it was never again. Focusing on the velcro of ensuring the gloves are tight over your soft skin the voice broke your train of thought.
“How come you were all lovey-dovey over Romanoff,” Brooke’s voice was soft, teasing even. Eyes peering over at the brunette as your brows lowered down, lovey dovey with the coach? Yeah right. Shaking your head as you bitterly responded, “Brookie, I ensure that I’m not head over heels for the coach. I feel like you should be worried about your own relationships rather than mine,”
Your sharp retort had Brooklyn scoffing, rolling her eyes as you snickered as the brunette walked off to go towards the first station. Nothing really happened much; other than you casting longing glances at Natasha who was standing near the batting cage where the pitching machine was up and running with the redheads eyes focused on who was batting and giving tips on how to improve. Yet it wasn’t clear to you on how whenever you turned your back to work on hitting, the coach's green eyes would skim over to peer at your behind as you worked.
It wasn’t until you and Brooke had moved into the batting cage you felt off, flustered. Your palms were sweaty through the gloves and you actually felt your hair stick to your forehead, feeling your nerves as you used your hips to lean back and bring your momentum forth as the ball was aiming just over the plate, bat missing the ball. Your teeth had sunk into the soft, supple flesh of your bottom lip on how you messed up. Feeling your mind slither into that dark mindset until your thoughts were interrupted, “Don’t drop your shoulder,”
Natasha’s voice was cool as it layered over the air of the gym, suddenly everything got hotter. But the question was how were you dropping your shoulder, you felt childish with wanting to inquire more. Bat falling to rest against your hips as Brooke stopped feeding the machine balls as you quietly mused out, “Can you show me?”
“Mmhmm,” Hummed out of Natasha’s throat, you swore you could see her eyes darken until she moved the netting and went to stand behind you. A calloused hand found yours over the bat before letting you adjust to the position to where you’d start off at the plate, feeling her hands find your hips to adjust them to ensure they’re balanced as she then went back to the grip of the bat, hands lacing atop of yours before guiding the bat.
“When you were swinging it was going on this path down for you to drop your shoulder to try and get it,” She explained, you felt her guide your hands to what she saw and you felt the drop now. Swallowing thickly as she then guided your hands back to raise again at the start. Elbow pushing against your right arm, bringing you back to have the bat over the plate as you balanced.
You felt like you were in a museum for show how still you were. Frozen midswing on what felt correct as she had her feet holding you upright as they were something to hold you down, unable to explain the heat that was up on your cheeks until she stepped back. You felt a shiver rush down your skin as she left her spot from behind you, hearing the net move as the coach left the batting cage. The sound of the pitching machine whirred as you prepared your step again, leaning back before swinging your bat as the ball went over the plate. The crack of ball meeting the bat was heard throughout the gym as if it was a practiced war cry.
It was only thirty more minutes of thinking about the redhead, and Natasha watching you. Practice was over, cleaning everything up. Head shifting as you focused on the redhead who was explaining the schedule.
“First game is next week, not a lot of practice time but be prepared on Thursday. We’re home at our fields, please dress for the weather,” Her voice held that soft rasp with a gentle accented touch, it had you swooning. Not like you’d admit that, you’ve never explored romantically nor had an attraction towards others such as your coaches. But Natasha? Something was different and you knew it, eyes narrowing as she added on, “It should be an easy team to beat, checking from their stats they aren’t that good,”
Some murmurs increased from the other girls, Kate who was standing beside you ducked her head to whisper a joke into your proximity but you didn’t catch it fully. Head twisting as Natasha’s eyes landed on you, as if expecting you to say something as your mouth went dry, gulping before finally clicking that you were the team captain. Sputtering out, “Make sure you’re well rested, we’re wearing our red jerseys, white pants and white socks,”
Some nods of agreement with your choice you leaned in to put your fist in the middle of the circle, calling off the team as everyone went to go pack their bags. Before a hand found your shoulder, turning to see Natasha as she leaned in closer before musing out, “Good work today, are you able to come to my office on Monday so we could talk more on where everyone plays and how the team collaborates?”
Her head had tilted slightly to hear Natasha’s hushed words better, humming a little bit before quietly sputtering out, “Yes! Of course coach, I’ll be able to. Thank you,”
Natasha held back a smirk at your words, rushed with a squeaky tone that had her wooing. Hand squeezing your shoulder before letting your shoulder go, humming out as she watched you gather your things. The rest of the team long gone before quietly adding on.
“Oh, and Y/N? Talk to the others about getting too touchy, we can’t play well if we’re too focused on slapping asses,” She tutted, eyes darkening as you turned your head to look at Natasha. You nodded dumbly as you swallowed thickly, walking out of the gym to get to your car as Natasha went to her office. Eyes focusing on the window as she watched your car leave the parking lot, plump lips lifting up into a smirk as she thought of ways to have you to herself. Especially after she noticed your longing glances towards her, at least she figured out it wasn’t one sided. She knew you were clueless, just a little thing that would fit right into her hands, you’d be her perfect baby that she’d spoil and give love to. Clueless you were, it wasn’t until she pulled up her phone and opened the camera she hidden into your car before practice started, ensuring you were to get home safe until she shut off her phone. Listening to the feed as she sat in her chair to work on the paperwork she had left over.
Her thighs pressed together, releasing a quiet huff into the silence of the office as she worked on setting up a lineup. And a message out to the team on new rules to come, rules that would ensure you to be hers.

Surprises
part 1 of rivals
fifteen year old Jo Knox gets her first call up to the USWNT camp and she makes her first professional rival.
3,744 words
|next part
I sighed as I pushed open the door to the hotel. I was vastly aware that it was highly unusual for someone to be in my position. Especially walking onto a team of such a high calibration.
After all, how many fifteen-year-olds could say that they got the chance to play with the United States Women’s National Team?
Mia Hamm. That’s it. The entire list.
Well.
Before today, at least.
Or, I guess I would actually have to take the field before I could actually be classified as playing with the national team. But just being at a camp with the national team was huge. And to be doing it toward the end of the year before the World Cup?
I wasn’t sure what it meant just yet. It could mean that the coaching staff really liked what they saw in me. Or this could be a test to see how I could handle the pressure.
And I wasn’t sure which one I would rather it be.
I would have to tackle this just like I did at home. Stay out of everyone else’s way and get my job done. That’s what mattered. If I could prove that I was good at what I could do, who knows? Maybe I would actually have a future with the national team one day.
“Jo! Over here!”
I lifted my head to find a woman smiling at me as she waved. I sent her a small smile of my own as I moved over closer to her.
“Hi,” I softly said once I got close enough.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, Jo,” the woman said as she held her hand out to me. I reached out to shake it. “I’m Dawn Scott. I’m the High Performance Coach for the team.”
“I’d introduce myself, but you already know who I am.”
Dawn let out a small laugh as her smile grew a bit wider.
“Come on, they haven’t really gotten far into the meeting yet,” Dawn said as she turned around. I dragged my bag behind me as I started to follow Dawn. “Jill’s excited to have you here. She wouldn’t stop boasting about you to Tom. Between us? Jill was very frustrated that Tom wouldn’t call you up.”
“And now she’s the coach?”
“Interim while the USSF tries to hire a new head coach. She was excited about getting the opportunity to add you to the roster though,” Dawn admitted. I was a bit surprised by that. I knew that I had been watched while I was with the youth teams, but I didn’t realize I had been watched specifically by the person they would trust to lead the team at this time. “It helps that Jill doesn’t mind risking chemistry to try out new and upcoming talent. Let’s face it, you’ve got a lot of talent already and you’re still nowhere near your full potential.”
“Yeah, well, outside of school, soccer is pretty much all I focus on. I mean, we all pretty much have our own thing in my family, mine just happens to be soccer,” I shrugged as we slowed down outside of one of the conference rooms. “With a family like mine? You have to do something to make sure that you stand out.”
“You can leave your bags just inside by the door if you’d like. I’ll have to go and sit on the side with the coaches, but you’ll have to sit with the players,” Dawn explained. That made sense. It would be even weirder if a teenager was sitting with the coaches rather than the other players. “There’s usually a seat in the back that’s open.”
“Thanks.”
Dawn nodded as she gave me one last smile as we both ducked into the room. I wasn’t too surprised when heads turned to stare at me as I left my bags by the door before I sat in the back left row. I tried not to let their stares bother me as I turned my attention to Jill. Jill wasn’t going through anything other than what I expected, just how we were going to have a tight schedule and what she was hoping to get out of this camp.
“One last thing before you can go! I have called up Jo Knox,” Jill announced as she peered over the others to look at me. I nodded as I avoided everyone else’s eyes. “I know some of you might not want to get along with a fifteen-year-old, but please make her feel welcomed. I’ve watched her on the field, and I think she’s got something special. You’re all free to leave. Jo, if you’ll stay behind.”
I waited in my seat as everyone else moved to leave. It wasn’t until most everyone else had left the room that I finally stood up. I moved to the front of the room as Jill was talking to one of the assistant coaches, but she turned her attention to me when I got closer.
“Hi, Jo,” Jill greeted me. I only gave a small nod in acknowledgement. “Look, I don’t want you to focus on being the absolute best right now. I just want you to focus on getting settled in and getting used to the team. Think you can handle that?”
“Yeah, of course, Coach.”
“That’s what I like to hear,” Jill said. She held a keycard out to me. I took it before sliding it into my pocket. “You’ll be rooming with Becky Sauerbrunn. Becky will help make sure that you study for school. I know that you have final exams coming up.”
“Yeah, I’ll make sure to study,” I nodded. It was one of the only reasons my parents had let me come to camp anyways. “My parents gave me certain grades to get on my finals anyways if I want to come back to camp during the school year.”
“Just don’t stress out too much between soccer and school. Don’t need your play suffering because you’re too stressed out,” Dawn said from the side.
I looked over at her before I nodded. I knew that she was right. I really didn’t need to stress too much about everything.
“You want to know a secret?” Jill asked. I looked back over at her before slightly nodding. “I already plan on calling you back up for the next camp, okay? I know that this is going to be a stressful camp for you with it being so close to the end of the school year and you joining the senior squad. I just wanted to get you into camp so you would have an idea of what it’s like. The only thing that will keep me from calling you up for the next camp is you getting injured. Okay?”
“Okay.”
“All right, all of your gear is in your room. Ryan’s got everything up there for you. We’ll get you into media here in the next couple of days,” Jil said as she looked over at the rest of the staff. I guess they weren’t all coaches after all. “If your gear breaks or wears down, including shin pads or boots, you tell Ryan and he’ll help you get new gear within the same day.”
My eyes landed on the man who sent me a small smile and wave. I guess that was Ryan.
“Okay, cool.”
“I think that’s about all that I have for you. I’ll let you get settled in,” Jill said as she sent me a small smile. “I’m sure the girls are dying to get to know you. They’re probably waiting on the floor to bombard you with questions as we speak.”
I nodded at that before I gathered my bags and headed to the elevators. I didn’t have to wait long for an elevator. Once I was inside the elevator and by myself, I sighed as I watched the numbers climb higher. I wasn’t entirely sure what was waiting for me at the top though. But I definitely didn’t expect for a majority of the players to be standing in front of the elevator doors staring back at me.
I shuffled off of the elevator but I didn’t try to push past any of the older players.
“Hi,” I said as I rubbed the back of my neck and looked down at my shoes. I really needed to get new shoes. And ones that weren’t hand-me-downs from Deliliah.
“God, you really are just a kid.”
I looked up to meet Megan Rapinoe’s eyes as she finished the statement. I only shrugged my shoulders. It wasn’t like I could change the fact that I was fifteen.
“So, are you any good, kid?”
I could only stare back at Abby. I mean it was Abby Wambach. I slowly nodded as I realized everyone was still looking at me for an answer.
“Well, I mean, I think I am at least,” I said as I rocked back and forth on my heels. “I’ve been playing with people older than me for all of my life.”
“Oh, yeah? How much older?”
“Well, I started playing with my club's U16 team when I was 12 and then I moved up to the U18 team when I was 14.”
“So you’re a prodigy?” Lauren Cheney asked. I only shrugged my shoulders at that.
I wasn’t sure that I would call myself a prodigy. I put in a lot of work into my game, but it did feel like soccer was in my blood. Like I was meant to play this game.
“As if some pipsqueak could get a ball past any goalie worth being on a national team.”
A lot of the players in front of me turned to the voice that came from the back of the group. A few even glared at the person. I could only look anywhere else but at the woman who had made the remark as she narrowed her eyes at me.
“I don’t think you could even get one ball past me.”
A few of the older players started to scold the woman while the others muttered amongst themselves.
“I think the coaches would beg to differ.”
All of the older players went silent as all of their eyes turned back to me. I still refused to make eye contact with any of them or even look at the woman as she pushed her way to the front of the group.
“The opinions of our coaches doesn’t matter if the facts state otherwise.”
“What facts? That I’m fifteen? I’m smaller than you?” I asked as I finally met Hope Solo’s eyes. “Everyone underestimates me. Everyone. And I thrive with the underestimations. And tomorrow, during practice, you’ll underestimate me and you don’t even know what I can do. You have no idea if you should or not. But you’ll do it anyway because of how small I am. Because of my age. And when I get that ball, every single touch will matter. And nothing you do will stop that.”
The two of us only stared at each other as Hope towered over me.
“Hey, break it up!” A new voice called out. Most of the women moved to the side, but Hope didn’t budge and I refused to break eye contact with her now. “I said break it up.”
Hope didn’t move. Not until Christie Rampone put her hand on the keeper’s arm.
“Just don’t be surprised when I crush your dreams tomorrow, kid.”
I watched Hope’s back as she turned and walked away from the group.
“What’s going on here?” Christie asked. I only moved my gaze down to my feet again. I didn’t want the eyes on me. Not like this. Christie’s gaze moved from me to the rest of the team when she realized that I wasn’t going to say anything. “I thought I told you all to back off the kid for now.”
There it was again.
Kid.
That’s all I was to everyone. Just some kid who had no idea what she was getting into.
“The kid’s got balls.”
I didn’t care who had said it as I pushed my way through them all so I could get to my room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hope wants you to take penalties against her,” Jill said as she looked down at me. I had my hands on my knees as I was trying to get my breath back after I had ran the length of the field to get the ball back before taking it back toward my team’s goal myself before I had gotten the assist. “You okay to do that?”
I stayed quiet as I nodded my head. I knew what she was doing. Hope either figured that I would chicken out and refuse to take the penalties or she would be able to stop them.
“No one can stop me,” I said as I stood up to look Jill in the eye. “That’s why you called me up, isn’t it? You saw that no one had an answer on how to stop me at the youth levels.”
“I called you up because you have potential.”
“You don’t have to lie to me,” I said as I looked over where most of the team was. “You can tell them that your decision was based on potential, but don’t lie to me . And now you’re curious to know if Solo can stop me.”
“I’ll admit, I’ve been a bit confused as to why Hope wants to try to humiliate you,” Jill said as she looked over at Hope. “But I did call you up because of the potential. I mean, if you’re already able to play the way you currently are and you’re only fifteen, what can you do in a year after playing with the best women in the world?”
“I want to do the penalties. I want to show them I’m not just some kid who can’t hold their own.”
Jill turned her gaze back to me as she stared at me for a moment. I knew that practice was about to wrap up so it made sense for us to do this now anyways.
“Gather up!” Jill yelled, causing most of the players to turn to where we were standing. “Just know that Hope added an extra stipulation to it.”
Jill tossed me a water bottle as everyone on the team gathered around Jill.
“We’re going to have a penalty shoot out! five shots just like an in game shoot out,” Jill announced. A few of the players groaned. I wasn’t sure if the team had to do something like this a lot or not. “Today’s shoot out will be a little different, though. Solo in goal for all five while Knox shoots them all. Majority wins, just like in a game. If Hope saves 3, outfielders run extra laps. If Jo makes 3, goalies run extra laps.”
I didn’t miss the way some of the older players were muttering to each other about the rules. This was quite unfortunate. If I somehow wasn’t able to make 3 of my penalties then I was really screwed because I knew that the older players would absolutely hate that I hadn’t been able to back up my talk from the previous night and be the reason they had to run extra.
“Line up!”
Everyone else moved to the midfield as Hope headed for the goal. I trailed behind Jill who picked up a ball.
“You really want everyone to hate me, don’t you?”
“I really want to see if you’re as good as you think,” Jill said. She glanced over her shoulder at me. “Score 3 of them and none of them will hate you.”
I sighed as Jill handed me the ball before she moved to talk to Hope. I stopped at the penalty spot before I placed the ball how I wanted it. I eventually moved back when I was sure that I had the ball like I wanted it.
I waited for Jill to finish talking to Hope before she moved to the side. I tried to ignore all of the eyes on my back. It was just a penalty, I didn’t even have to get past any defenders. I waited until Jill blew the whistle.
Then I waited one more moment as I finally picked my spot.
I rushed toward the ball before I put as much power as I could behind the shot. The ball sailed perfectly into the top left corner as Hope had just missed the ball by less than a fingertip. I didn’t miss the cheers behind me. I grinned even as Hope glared at me.
I stopped the ball with my foot when Jill kicked it toward me before I picked the ball up. I placed the ball back like I wanted it before moving back behind the ball. I waited until I heard the whistle. This time I didn’t give Hope any extra seconds as I was rushing forward as soon as I heard the whistle. The ball hit the top left corner again.
This was going well for me. I already had two of the three goals that I needed. And Hope hadn’t been able to stop even one. I took a deep breath as I placed the ball on the penalty spot for a third time.
I gave myself an extra moment again this time, but this one lasted even longer than the first time I had taken an extra moment. I just needed one more in the back of the net. This time the ball fired off of the sidebar before knocking into the goal.
The posts were still rattling as Hope threw a glare at me, but I only smirked and shrugged my shoulders. I didn’t actually care about myself having to run, but I had wanted to prove that I knew what I was doing. And it definitely helped that I had gotten to show off against the Hope Solo in the process.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“That was an amazing game,” Julie Foudy said. I grinned at the praise that I was receiving through the headset. “Tell me about it from your perspective.”
“You know, I just wanted to go in and show everyone what I could do,” I shrugged. It was true. I had really just wanted to show what I could do at this level. “I didn’t exactly expect to get a goal coming in so late if I’m honest. But I’m happy to have been able to help the team get the win.”
“And your first cap and goal comes against Canada. That’s got to be an amazing feeling,” Julie said as I nodded. It really had been amazing. “Knowing what our rivalry with Canada is like and having played them before. It’s a great game to get your first cap.”
“Yeah, it was definitely incredible. I don’t think I could have asked for a much better opponent to get my first cap against,” I said. I glanced over my shoulder where I watched as the rest of my team was headed to the locker rooms. “It’s definitely different getting to play in the game rather than just watching it on TV. And if today was any indication of how hard the games against Canada always are, I’m looking forward to future games.”
“Well, do you have any plans when you get home? I mean, you just got your first cap and it’s time for summer break.”
“Uh, not so much as fun plans right off the bat. I have finals to take when I get home,” I admitted. I rubbed the back of my neck at the reminder. “After that, I don’t have many plans other than soccer. Might take a trip to the lake sometime over the summer if I’m lucky. Just have to see what my summer schedule turns out to look like.”
“All right, well, I’ll let you get to the locker room so you can celebrate your first cap with the team.”
I gave the camera one last wave before I pulled the headset off and handed it off to one of the crew members before I headed down the tunnel. I was a bit surprised when I stepped into the locker room only to have water dumped onto my head. I couldn’t help the grin that broke out on my face though as a lot of the older players cheered around me.
“Okay! Okay! Settle down!” Christie called out. She had a ball in her hands as everyone settled down. “We have the game ball for Jo to celebrate her first cap and her first goal which gave us the win over Canada!”
Everyone cheered again as Christie handed me the ball.
“Go ahead and say a few words, kid.”
Everyone went quiet again as I rolled the ball in my hands. I wasn’t even sure what to say.
“I’ve been watching this team ever since I could remember. Some of you, I’ve been looking up to ever since I was a really little kid. Some of you, I’ve only been looking up to you in the most recent years. But it has always been a dream to get to play with this team and it’s been amazing to get my first cap with such an amazing group of women,” I said as I looked around the locker room. “I really can’t wait to get more training time at camps and work with all of you even more. And I guess the last thing is, I’d like you all to sign the ball so I can always remember who was here for my first cap.”
It didn’t take long until I had the ball back in my hands after the team had passed it around to sign it. Now I was standing in probably the only person in the locker room who still had a bone to pick with me. I held the ball out to Hope as she stared at it.
“Come on,” I said as I only pushed the ball further toward her. “It’d be a shame if I didn’t get the whole team to sign the ball. And last time I checked, you’re part of the team.”
Hope rolled her eyes but she took the ball from me before signing it. I grinned once Hope gave me the ball back.
“I still don’t like you that much.”
“You don’t have to. You just have to be my teammate.”

[MORE INFO]
[Loosely references Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde]
Nicknames:
Crema/クッレマ (Cloche) | Big Henchman (Grim) | Vet/Medic (Ace) | Tiger Prawn (Floyd) | Monsieur Fumé (Rook)
Bio:
A proud and confident man, loves nothing more than himself. He’ll act diplomatic when needed, but that exterior will crack fit if something doesn’t go his way. Mors is bad at compromising, and can be very stubborn. May act passive aggressive in retaliation. Ever the megalomaniac, he will stop at nothing to reach the top. He is a man above pretensions, like morality and ethics. Though he can be boisterous, Mors is well spoken, hurling obscure insults at those who earn his ire. No matter what, he is always in the right.
Core Values -> Accomplishment + Knowledge
Elm is the opposite of Mors, a humble and kind man. He’ll do good for the sake of it, not asking for anything in return. Can be a bit of a pushover.
Core values -> Inspiring + Empathy
Background:
From the hit series, “Loyalty Lock”, Mors is an antagonist. Was an aspiring doctor of noble birth, that got drafted by mistake. His military career consisted of being a foot soldier, medic, to army officer (through bribery and corruption). Along with him being a controversial political figure in Vostege, Mors has many enemies. This resulted in him buying hiring a special vessel from “Goldbelle’s Facility of Maids”.
Mors had no one else but himself to blame, having taken the life of his one and only ally. If he was still under her protection, would he be a free man? Arms bound by rope, wood digging into his neck, he might as well think of his last words instead of what-ifs.
Elm stepped into the dark carriage and Mors came out the of coffin.
Notable Thoughts: Mors’
“I can’t possibly imagine being buttered up so easily, like the Headmaster of this school. Hm? Why are you staring at me like that for?”
“Eugh… Not only does Miss Jin have to resemble Cloche, but they share the same name. It leaves a foul taste in my mouth.”
“Grim is a curious specimen, indeed! I’m no veterinarian, by any means, but I would love to take a closer look at him when he is still.”
“Mr. Trappola? The boy’s clever, alright. He always knows just the right things to say.”
“I suppose Mr. Spade is quite cute, is he not? Always so eager to please.”
“Mr. Howl is alright for a beastman… He is at least well disciplined. ”
“Mr. Pergameno is surprisingly knowledgeable of protective eyewear. I may ask him for recommendations, sometime.”
“Lucius seems to hiss at me whenever I stop by and chat with Professor Trein. I wonder why, hohoh…”
“Professor Crewel would make a fine drill sergeant. The crack of his whip brings me back to my days of youth.”
“Coach Vargas’ physique is extraordinary. I’d like to someday study his veins, if given the opportunity to.”
“The Mystery Shop always somehow has everything I need. I wouldn’t ask Mr. Sam any questions he wouldn’t ask me.”
Notable Thoughts: Others’
“Mr. Clematis? Such a nice and helpful man! Taking on the task of monitoring the library by himself, on top of his studies.” - Crowley
“It could have been anyone else from ‘Loyalty Lock’ to get isekai’d here, but it just had to be him.” - Cloche
“Eek! Hide me! Do not make that freak come near me, please!” - Grim
“Can you patch me up instead? I don’t wanna get another scolding from the Vet!” - Ace
“Yeah, of course I respect Mors! He’s been taking the time to help me with studying and some reading.” - Deuce
“Mors’ insistence of live specimens, for dissections, stresses me out a little, but that’s how he did it back in his time… haha…” - Trey
“If I had to choose between dealing with Rook and dealing with Mors, I’m taking Mors all the way. At least he can leave me alone.” - Ruggie
“That geezer has some magic within him, but it’s unlike any I’ve seen before. It smells off.” - Leona
“I’ve got to return the handkerchief Mors gave me someday!” - Leikata
“Ah, Mors! Talking with him gives me nostalgia. It’s not bad looking back into the past.” - Lilia
Extras/Trivia:
- Harbours a strong dislike of all beastmen, and a preference for humans
- Pops in and out of any classes if it interests him
- His glasses are pinched on the bridge of his nose
- May go off on a tangent about all the “incompetent people” of his world when drunk
- Always faintly smells of smoke. Cigar? Gun powder? …Something else?
- Addresses most of the cast as adults, since they would have “reached maturity” where he is
- Oddly flattered that there is a “series based on his life events and greatness”
- Greys early because of stress in his youth

Part 1
Baki:
~ a father with whom the children are not too spoiled, but he does not keep them in check.

~ he will be more restrained with his son
~ A LOT OF COMPETITIONS
~ very much
~ for example, who will eat their portion of miso faster or "Who does mom love more, you or me, let's check?"
~ despite this, he will train and mentor his son.
~ he will try to make his son less of a slob than he is.
Hanayama:
~ ho-ho
~ he doesn't know how to say no to his daughter
~ I think she'll be a little copy of him.
~ the best dresses, the best food, all the best for her. She's his little princess, she should get the best of everything.
~ perhaps strictness can only be shown if it concerns studying.
~ if there's one thing she shouldn't be like him in, it's studying
~ he will hire the best tutors for her
~ Hana's daughter is probably engaged in drawing
~ HE LOVES, HE LOVES it when his daughter gives him her drawings
~ (he has a drawer on his desktop where he keeps all the drawings donated by his daughter)
~ he will be much stricter with his son
~ if he does something stupid, Hana won't cover his ass
~ iron discipline
~ his son is definitely hanging out with Chiharu
~ probably coaching his son, in the future he might want to brush him off😁
~ he definitely won't let his child near the mafia, regardless of his gender, no.... Just not

Ted Lasso s4 ideas:
The season inexplicably reverts to an old school format. I.e., there are 24 episodes, but all of them are roughly the same length as s1 episodes and not those s3 monstrosities
Most of these episodes are just goofy team antics for the hell of it :) but there’s also more room for good character development and whatnot.
Return of the Christmas Episode!
Keeley and Barbara get an arc about becoming true work besties and being amazing at their jobs. Barbara gets to be a bigger supporting character because let’s be real this show needs more women.
Keeley is also back at Richmond working on the women’s team and thus no longer isolated from the main cast all season
Roy is struggling with being a manager and Nate is the one who helps him adjust. Thus we get some fruition and payoff from the Nate & Roy parallels and Nate’s Roy-shaped insecurities in prior seasons.
Trent’s back to “write a book about Rebecca” and he spends most of his time “interviewing” her in her office, except really they mostly just gossip about everyone at the club and eat biscuits
Jamie tells other people about visiting his dad and lets people help him process and navigate that in a healthy way. I think it would be really lovely if Sam was one of the people he confides in and they get a bestie arc that emphasizes how much their relationship has grown and why. Also the dad foils there remain soooo juicy. Whether it works out with James or not is less important than whether the story is given necessary and thoughtful attention
Roykeeley get to have the necessary conversations about their breakup that s3 denied them :( maybe they also get a nice heart-to-heart about both feeling in over their heads in their new job roles and how that can be so overwhelming but also ultimately very rewarding, too.
Royjamie rain kiss
Eventual Canon Throuple duh
Beardjane divorce arc + adorable Dad!Beard antics
Ted pops up for intermittent cameos when he’s zooming in from American to join in on the Diamond Dogs. It becomes a running bit because they always forget about time zones and wake him up and shit.
Ted makes a larger cameo near the end of the season because he and Henry take a trip to London to watch the team and cheer them on.
Everyone is left happy and thriving and therapied down 🫡
Jason you should hire me. Put me in, coach!

Happy 28th! Here are all the fics I read and enjoyed this month. this could either break my heart, or bring it back to life | anditsonlyforthebrave | [18k] Harry never really cared for love: he has two children he needs to care for, and a Country to rule. Love is just not in his cards. Enter Louis, who spins his children's lives but most importantly Harry's. In Shining Armour of Trackie and Trainers | LadyAJ_13 | [9k] Online dating isn't exactly working for Harry. In fact, it couldn't really be going much worse. But then the door of the bar opens, and the pack of friends walking in parts and - that’s Louis Tomlinson. Louis fucking Tomlinson.
Angel Baby | brightgolden | [51k] “You’d be a MILF,” Louis teases, squeezing Harry’s love handles. Harry smiles, dimples deep in his cheeks as he hums in agreement. “I would, wouldn’t I? Your MILF.” OR When Louis’ sugar-baby-turned-mate suddenly wanted a pup, he simply couldn’t say no to his bright-eyed omega. After all, who didn’t want a mini Harry running around the house? He should have known that it wasn’t all wonderful in the wonderland of baby making. It's Fine To Fake It 'Til You Make It ('Til It's True) | sunflouwerhabit | [141k] Harry Styles @HarryStyles_KE hi again! so, i wanted to apologize one more time for the whole “helogogjs good gksdjid” thing, and also say that i didn’t just accidentally open your DM’s when i wasn’t paying attention earlier. i sort of had a question about a tweet you posted yesterday? like. the whole “rent a boyfriend” thing? is that something you were serious about? and if so, how does one come to hire you to be their boyfriend? i’m, um, asking for a friend ***** Harry dreads an impending visit to his hometown, where he’ll be forced to reunite with a newly engaged ex-boyfriend, a childhood best friend turned near stranger, and a family who never understood just how desperately he needed to leave. In the midst of it all, a ludicrous Twitter proposition brings him to Louis.
It’s Only Sunny Cause the Planet’s Dying | LetTheMusicMoveYou | [14k] The man leans back in his chair and looks down at the tarot cards in front of him. “Wow, that was really impressive. How long did it take you to memorize all this bullshit?” He raises a brow and that challenging look is back on his face, but he’s not even bothering to mask it this time. It makes Louis’ blood run cold. “I beg your pardon?” The man chuckles, but there’s no humor in it. “If you take a peek in my wallet that you just stole, you’ll see there’s a detective’s badge in there. Why don’t you come on down to the police station with me and you can explain your methods to me there?” (Or the one where Louis is a thief and a con-artist who’s used to getting what he wants, using any means necessary. And Harry is is the straight-laced detective who might just be tired of always doing the right thing). Running Over Thoughts That Make My Feet Hurt | enchantedlandcoffee | [5k] Louis is the little league coach of 'The Ducklings', the team that Harry's daughter plays for. Whilst she tries her best, she doesn't quite have the skills so Coach Tommo steps in. He offers private lessons to try and help her, and if he gets in her dad's good books? Well that'd just be a bonus. Save Me (from myself) | Imogenlee | [159k] The problem with being friends with Liam Payne was that he had a lot of friends... and forced them to be around each other. When they finished high school, both Louis and Harry were equally relieved that they wouldn't have to tolerate each other constantly or whatever it was that they did. For five years, it worked out perfectly. They'd only had to see each other a handful of times. Unfortunately, Liam had to go and get engaged, ask them to both be groomsmen, and then go full groomzilla on their arses. With just twelve weeks to plan the 'perfect' destination wedding and throw every ridiculous pre-wedding celebration Liam and his fiancée stumble across, it was safe to say they were firmly back in each other's lives. And no one could have predicted that was exactly what they needed. Fight For Us | FallingLikeThis | [11k] Louis isn’t okay. It’s beyond wrong, the way they’re held in a cage waiting to be chosen for mating. It’s the way it’s been all Louis’ life, but he never wanted to end up like this. He’d hoped against hope that he’d present as a beta since they don’t have these same restrictions on them. They don’t have to adhere to their biology. And one dark night, long after all of the other omegas in the pen have fallen asleep, biology comes calling for Louis. In The Name of Being Honest | sunflouwerhabit therogueskimo | [124k] Back at his desk, Louis closed his eyes for a moment, trying to settle into the reality of this. He was leaving the UK for only the second time in his life. Suddenly, the holiday he took to Spain three summers ago felt like it paled in comparison. He was going to the U.S. - for work, it was true, but still - alone. He’d been all for seizing the moment when his boss had been looking at him with a gaze of steel, but now he felt vaguely nauseous. Louis took several shaky breaths, feeling like the air was being sucked from the room, and opened the manila folder, laying it flat on his desk. His breath caught as he saw the destination, centered in a large, block font at the very top of the first page: Robinson Publishing - Chicago, Illinois, United States of America. ~~~ After two years of living in an everlasting cycle of work, sleep, and regret, Louis finds himself wandering brand new streets perpetually haunted by the ghosts of his past. The Chicago Fic.

Walking While Carefree & Black
Fetishized & dehumanized.
Daily misogynoir.
Harrassed on my daily walks for hugging a tree, picking a flower, laying on grass and stretching out my arms, twirling, smiling, being an unrushed unbothered carefree fierce ferocious unapologetic black woman who isnt on the way to somewhere, Im not going to 7-11 five minutes from my apartment, Im not rushing to work, Im not hurrying, Im not hustling, Im not bustling, Im not harried, Im not distratcted, Im not anxious, Im not impatient, Im not speedwalking, Im not in a car, Im not on a bike, Im walking on sidewalks, under bridges, near highways, busy intersections, busy traffic lights, near school buses, near angry white stay at home moms pushing their strollers, moms with toddlers shielding their eyes from me, white police men slowing their patrol cars when I am doing nothing but take a selfie under a bridge.
Why cant I be free?
Why cant I twirl?
Why cant I hug trees?
Why cant I treat a light pole as a stripper pole?
Is it a crime to joke around during the day when people are at school and work, jokingly twirl myself around the pole, pretend I am a pole dancer, and take a video selfie?
Will I be Sandra Bland'd?
Why cant I take pictures of a rose garden?
Why cant I take a selfie under a bridge? On a park bench?
Why cant I pick flowers near the sidewalk, smell them, place them behind my ear and skip down the sidewalk pavement?
Capitalism demands that I, a black woman, be a slave to their system but I left their system.
I left Amazon in a week with no job lined up.
I left Dow Jones with no job lined up.
I left Bank of America in 3 months with no job lined up.
I left Yale.
I quit my career coaching business after 3 years and over a hundred executive clients.
I permanently left corporate in 2019 and quit my business this year.
I am a permanent freeelancer now.
I am a podcaster now. We dont have sponsors yet so I dont currently generate income.
$55/hr at Amazon and after six months they were going to convert me with the coveted unrestricted stock aka golden handcuffs.
It was a cult. I left in a week.
I made -$7,000 last year as my business failed. I hated sales and referrals dried up.
Capitalism says I am a failure and a loser.
Capitalism says I, a nubian queen, Isis, an egyptian goddess, am only worth the revenue I generate.
I was the highest rated recruiter with the most hires at every Fortune 500 company I worked at.
I had over a hundred executive clients with my career coaching business that landed offers at Disney, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Amazon & Comcast with five figure salary increases.
I was a career advisor at Yale who coached graduate and postdoc STEM students.
Capitalism rolls its eyes and asks me, What have you done for me lately?
It demands I turn myself back into a machine to be deemed worthy.
But those days are over.
I will never work another 9 to 5 in any industry -- corporate, academic or non-profit.
I will never work a job that requires that I report into a supervisor.
I will never work another job with dictated shifts.
I will never sell anything to anyone ever again. I detest sales and I hate capitalism.
Capitalism is dehumanizing and it kills. It profits off of, relies on and thrives on energetic and psychic attacks that sends its adherents & acolytes to an early stress-induced death.
I was having GI issues and I healed myself.
No doctor, no gastroenterologist, no harmful laxatives, no chemical stimulants, no synthetic lab-made prescription medication that can all be addictive.
The smoothie takes 5 minutes and is just blending 1 cup pineapples, 1/2 cucumber, 1/4 grated ginger, 1 lemon, 1 orange, 2 tbs apple cider vinegar and 4 ice cubes & 1 cup of water in a mixer. Makes 2 servings, drink 1 cup in morning and 1 cup at night.
I just started walking outside in nature for an hour a day, not power walking, no step counting, no calorie counting, just being in nature, soaking up the sun, breathing the air, barefoot in grass, hugging trees, picking and smelling flowers, doing simple yoga exercises, abdominal massages, using a heating pad on my stomach, drinking 32 to 64 oz of water a day, eliminating coffe, not drinking soda during the week (used to drink 1 to 2 cans a day), fresh fruit & vegetable smoothie in the morning, oatmeal or grape nuts cereal with peppermint herbal tea no sugar or honey, homemade vegetarian salad & homemade vegetarian dressing (store bought dressing has a ton of fat, sugar amd calories) and mixed nuts as a snack Monday through Friday then I take a break and eat what I want on the weekend.
GI issues resolved themselves in a week, I am healthier, lighter, less sluggish, more fit, more in shape and more energetic. This is now my diet 75% of the time (5 days a week).
Decolonize your mind.
You have the ability to heal yourself. Stop running to doctors and quick fixes.
Change what you eat. Move more.
Get outside in nature! You are nature!
That is what heals. We come from nature and we are nature.
Trees, grass, sunlight, air, flowers, butterflies, streams, brooks, meadows, gardens, pumpkin patches, orchard farms, parks, nature trails.
Get outside.
Not to get in your car. Not to go somewhere.
Stop spending all your time penned inside like an animal and a prisoner.
Not to go to the mall, shopping, a restaurant, a salon, a spa, a movie theater, work, school, a grocery store, a laundromat, dry cleaners.
Not to run an errand.
Not to sit in traffic in a machine.
Not to burn calories.
Not to power walk.
Not to lose weight.
To reconnect with nature.
To reconnect your mind, soul, body, heart and spirit.
The west purposely severs this connection in service of capitalism.
Its up to you to restore it.
Walk. Breathe. Be. Skip. Twirl. Pose. Use the sidewalk as a catwalk. Take selfies. Take pictures.
Stop and smell the flowers.
Hug a literal tree.
Lay on the grass while cars roll past you with their windows down and stare at you like youre crazy.
Its 11 am on a Tuesday.
What the hell is she doing laying on the grass with her arms outstretched?
Why isnt she at work or at school?
Confuse people with your very presence.
I have a goth alt kawaii japanese street fashion aesthetic that includes boyshorts, leather garters, torn fishnets, leather chokers, hello kitty tiaras, six inch pink platform heels, black lipstick, mini cut out crop tops, extremely thick black eyeliner and hot pink eyeshadow.
For wearing this on Friday on my daily walk at 8:30 am which I then shared on TikTok, I was accused of being indecent, inappropriate for children to see going to school, people stared, rolled their windows down, honked at me, cars followed me, two men purposefully walked right into me bumping me (there was plenty of room on the sidewalk), an HVAC repairman leered at me outside of his van and literally just stared holes through me as I walked by.
Im 41. Im 5"1. Im 92 lbs. Im black and female.
I have a quirky style and aesthetic. I look young.
I also shaved my head bald a few weeks ago and have a bald fade.
People have since then called me a dyke, asked if I am trans, am I a boy or a girl, whats the deal.
Thats when I dont have a wig on.
I love different looks so I also wear long wigs.
The reaction is completely different when I wear a wig and people tell me how good I look, that people are slowing their cars down because I am attractive.
Bald fade, bony dyke who looks like a boy and might be trans.
Long wig, attractive girl, let me slow down and get a look.
Still black no matter the hair. Still followed.
Still harrassed.
A MAGA Proud Boy harrassed me with my bald fade while I was wearing an Eagles shirt and jeans. He stared at me as I took a selfie on a bench under a tree, when I got up to walk home, he started walking towards me and blocked my path in the small walkway we were both on and wouldnt let me pass.
Doesnt matter if its boy shorts and leather garters or an Eagles shirt and jeans.
I am harrassed for being a carefree black girl in capitalist Amerikkka.

NATE BIRTH!! if you're still doing them: ✒️, 💭 ?
Thank you!!
✒️ - You are hired to write/draw a new BttF comic, and it can be about whatever you want. What in the BttF universe would you want to expand on?
Okay, I alluded to a story idea I've had for a while in the tags of one of my other ask responses, but I think a story about Jennifer and Clara having to rescue their time-traveling idiots would be really excellent. It's got everything -- Doc and Marty in peril, an expanded role for some of the ladies (and especially for Jen), the opportunity to write an extremely convoluted time travel plot... I could do it.
💭- Share a favorite memory related to Back to the Future!
I've definitely talked about this before, but back when I was in high school and first figuring out I was trans, I didn't even have a binder yet and started wearing a lot of puffer vests to combat my dysphoria. Naturally, my speech and debate coach, who was a huge fan of the movies, started making BttF jokes whenever he saw me, and even took to calling me McFly sometimes. I, of course, was all for a teacher calling me something other than my legal name, and embraced it.
Looking back, even though he didn't know he was making a trans kid more comfortable (although he has since learned, after I graduated, and was really kind about that as well, which makes the memory that much fonder), it was still one of those little moments of approval from an adult that high schoolers absolutely latch onto. It was part of why I chose to compete with a BttF-themed speech my senior year, which is its own fond memory.
Needless to say, it's one reason trans Marty is an interpretation of the character near and dear to my heart, and I'm glad 17 year-old me had some pretty neat adults in my life, too.

Hi Alyssa!
I have a random question for you today…
What’s the strangest thing you have ever done for money?
Hi Kat!! Happy Monday!
Oh BOY that sure is a loaded question! hahahaha I have done quite a few strange things for money, honestly. Some of them might not be... how should I put this... sharable. But I have a couple that I certainly can tell you about.
1- Bartender at a Catholic High School fundraiser event. I think it was a fashion show? So I had already been a bartender for about three years when I started student teaching (there was a brief moment in time when I was going to be a HS English teacher) at my old high school (Yes, I attended catholic school for 12 years. Fun fact, that school has since shut down and was most recently used to film the new Mean Girls movie which I have not seen but the trailers trip me out because there's Tina Fey standing in my old history classroom lol) and was also coaching the girls' track team, so I was around the school often. Someone in the main office overheard me talking to one of the other teachers - who just so happened to be a friend that I bartended with in the summer - about being a bartender, so they asked me to "bartend" (it was just wine and beer) this event (that was held in the cafeteria). I guess it's not that strange, but it was a weird like... worlds colliding thing for me. Still, it was an easy $100.
2- I wrote social media posts for a cab company in London. For a while I was freelancing on Fiverr and was hired to write... so many strange articles, posts, press releases etc. (One time a really small scale rapper contacted me to write some reviews for his music and told me he was gonna take me to the top and I literally have not stopped laughing about that because no, sir, you are not taking me to the top you are paying me $5 to say your music is good which it wasn't horrible but it definitely wasn't going anywhere near the top. Another time I had to write 1500 words about different types of mattresses.) But my one repeat client was this cab company in London that had me rewrite all the copy for their website. And I have never been to London.
3- I sold donor recognition plaques. This one was strange in so many ways. I worked for a tiny company that specialized in making those like big wall installations and like trees that you see in hospitals and temples/churches and universities and other institutions where boosters/donors have their names on like plaques or leaves. It was strange working there for a lot of reasons. The company had been around for 100 years at the time I was working there, and if you looked around the office and workshop, you could tell. There was an entire room of paper records (non digitized, despite the fact that digitization exists and despite the fact that this company had already suffered a fire like 40 years ago and lost all their records) the workshop was like part functional creative space, part fucking museum because some of the tools were like The Original Tool. But the strangest part about working there was the fact that the three owners all seemed to be locked in a constant battle with each other which made it impossible to get anything done. But yeah. If you've ever been in a temple or hospital in NY, NJ or the surrounding area, chances are the tiny dysfunctional company I worked for made their plaques.
#i have done some strange things in this life#thanks for asking kat!#this was fun#katareyoudrilling#ask me anything!

Witcher + Yellowjackets - Yellowjackets on The Continent
A few weeks ago I went on an incoherent rant in a server (Thank you Bookclub, Love you Bookclub) where I brainstormed how The Team would fit into the world of The Witcher. I've finally gotten around to reformatting it into a tumblr post, so.... Here's my incoherency!
First, who are they and why are they?
Coach Ben Scott is a traveling merchant residing in Kaedwen, wanting to sell some of his products in Nilfgaard. He posts an ad in Ban Glean to get a group of people together to guard his caravan as they travel.
Van Palmer is a Witcher from the school of The Wolf, specifically hired due to her connections to known Political Tactician, Taissa. She was originally from Skellige, but was the child surprise of a Bear Witcher who dropped her off at the school of the wolf upon realizing she was a girl (He got wolf and cat confused on who trained Witcheresses, but The Wolves still took her).
Laura Lee is a priestess of the temple of Melitele in Ellander, trained under Nenekke. Her family was always closely tied with the temple, to the point that each generation had at least one woman going into training or study at it. She was following a family tradition by studying under Nenekke. She was in Ban Glean on a trip accompanying field medic Misty towards Ban Ard, but the two of them abandoned their trip.
Lottie Matthews is a distant cousin of the Thyssen Nobility of Kovir, and student at Oxenfurt. Her mother was infertile, so her parents found a woman who looked close enough to act as a stand in mother- not knowing she was of Elven Descent. when Lottie was born, it was discovered she was Elvish, and that lead her and her father to having a very tense relationship. They shipped her off to Oxenfurt, where she went on to study literature and music. Basically, Poetic Disaster Bard <3<;3. Natalie Scatorccio is a Sorceress of Aretuza, graduating less from her grades and more from her practical skill and wit. She temporarily held a court position in her home country of Vicovaro, before leaving the moment Nilfgaard, took over. She was discovered to be a mage when she accidentally exploded her father out of fear for her own safety.
Taissa Turner is a noble-born negotiator who studied at Oxenfurt to get her start into politics and law, with the aim to become a court advisor in her home country of Lyria. She hopes that having a few political trips under her belt will build up a good repertoire, and open a better path to her prospective position.
Jackie Taylor is a Sorceress of Aretuza who didn't get into the school due to her abilities, but due to the fact she was from a wealthy Redanian family who could pay the price. She finished her sorceress training after being practically dragged through it by Shauna, where they avoided court appointment, instead choosing to travel together.
Shauna Shipman is a Sorceress of Aretuza who was discovered to be a mage when she caused all of the rabbits in the forest near her home in Aedirn to suddenly die due to a rush of emotion. She and Jackie met in their first year at Aretuza, and became practically bound at the hip. Shauna wanted to go onto a court appointment, but didn't want to be separated from Jackie, and instead chose to travel.
Misty Quigley is a part-halfling medic who trained under her distant uncle as a field medic, and she studied briefly at the temple of Melitele in Ellander.
I'm gonna be 100% honest I haven't put much thought into Akilah, Mari, Gen, Travis, or Javi, so they all are random hired strong arms. Crystal is as well, but grew up a family member of an Oxenfurt professor, and has some knowledge of literature.
The group is set out on a year-long journey one way to the Nilfgaardian capitol, and they're all Stuck Together <3. Their traveling party is known as The Yellowjackets, and the journey will be glorious, and no one will ever want to kill each other. /s
Please feel free to send me asks about this au I would literally adore worldbuilding questions <3

Figure skating is a toxic sport in so many ways, and to become a successful coach means that you will be interacting with toxic people on a fairly regular basis. It was Scott and Tracy’s choice to stay in this sport. You can argue that they will try to clean it up, but you can’t clean something up without getting your hands dirty. Their reputations will not always be spotless, because that’s impossible to do when you interact with sludge everyday. The focus should be on what they do themselves, and the actions they take to clean things up.
i've only been to a handful plus of competitions, but just people watching at them, you see some of the same faces and find out that someone who runs a skating club with bunches of skaters is also a judge, and they're always talking to the fed people. not that there's necessarily anything wrong there, but that the lines are pretty blurry
that coaches and skaters check in with the fed people - some of it feels like genuine working together but other interactions you can feel who has the power in the situation. that bigger skaters get treated nicer by the organizers and their feds. that everyone knows everyone and that someone famous in the sport is never not "on" at events - the fans are the least of it unless it's a huge event with a big crowd
some disciplines feel worse than others- the one pairs competition i went to felt gross and toxic - it was small enough that everyone was in the same space, so maybe that contributed, but it was tense and not friendly between anyone that i saw. there was an overall jaded and judgey vibe that was yuck and it almost turned me off of going to events. while the dance competitions have felt much better. teams bts were focused and in their own zones, but without that near hostility like the pairs one. some high emotions but not aimed at others. i'm sure insiders would have a lot to say about the dynamics, but that's just my little experience of it
it's probably true that you can't be in the sport at that level and not interact with toxic people or keep your hands completely clean. Scott sat down for an interview with Ted Barton Friday night at the Skate Canada Yukon/BC section annual general meeting. Scott, who hates how Russian skating operates, sitting down with Ted the Eteri supporter, Ted whose leadership and rink was just called out in a major way for its abusive culture. Ted talks effusively about Scott and the Moir family on broadcasts, said on the stream that he enjoys talking to Scott so much, so they have at minimum a cordial relationship
i'm not sure i agree that their reputations won't always be spotless - Scott is new to coaching, but Traci has been coaching for years, has been at Cricket since 2006, so if her reputation is still spotless, not sure that would change.
i'm not banking on them doing anything more than running their own schools in a clean, positive way. if they do more beyond that than voicing support for making the sport better, that would be a pleasant surprise. more schools with a culture of nurturing and respect for their athletes as whole people will make the sport better. but it's imperative to get rid of the ones who are doing harm, and the burden seems to be falling on survivors which is awful. Figure Skating needs to do better, yet USFS just sent a clear signal that it's business as usual with their latest hire
i'm not sure who you mean when you say the focus should be on what they do and the actions they take-- whether you mean their focus or our focus, but we as fans can keep the conversations alive, pay attention and connect the dots, ask questions so the topic never dies down, show the feds that we're noticing and that we care that the sport we love isn't doing harm, especially to the young people in it

okay sigh I slept on the job despair and feel a little better this morning. I think my despair has to do with feeling like I was misled a little bit in the interview process… or maybe I wanted to hear certain things and wasn’t listening closely enough to other things. my impression was that stuff like preparing briefings was going to be a very small fraction of my job, and that the bulk of my time would be spent on instructional work: planning and facilitating workshops, coaching staff one-on-one, and helping design & implement a comprehensive new professional development program. I love working with people and I love that big-picture strategic thinking curriculum design work, so I think I’d be reasonably happy in this role if it was the one described to me in my interviews. but the reality of this job is that I work alone 97% of the time—and most of that time is spent either on clerical tasks I could’ve handled in high school or on things I have no skillset for or interest in (like graphic design work). and while I get along much better with my team lead now and like her a lot as a person, I still feel really frustrated by the way she prioritizes tasks for our team and by the way she manages my workload even when I’m practically begging her to let me take on more (meaningful) work, like planning a writing workshop or developing a cohort-based leadership training series. I feel like she doesn’t want to take on extra projects as a team, which fine, but I’ve literally said to her multiple times that I don’t have enough to do and I don’t feel like the work I am doing is utilizing the skills I was ostensibly hired for. I don’t know how else to communicate that I’m desperate for purposeful work and would gladly take on those projects even if she wants to be minimally involved. and then as I’ve said before in my journaling about this job… I just hate the way that giving 10% of what I’m capable of makes me feel. I hate feeling like a person who’s content with just skating by, doing the bare minimum, not applying myself with any kind of focus or energy. it makes me feel Bad about myself and just lowkey demoralized all the time. blahhhh.
but okay. I’m not powerless here. I set up some new job alerts and am going to start updating my materials over the next couple weeks just in case anything comes up. there’s one job I’m looking at that would come with a pretty hefty pay cut, but I should be able to close that gap a bit if I start tutoring again and/or teach a couple classes a year. I’ve reached out about a couple of volunteer positions and will submit a few more applications this weekend. I might also apply for a tutoring job so I can start socking away some extra savings as a cushion if needed. I did a bunch of calculations last night to try to figure out what I need to cover rent, childcare expenses, etc. I think I can make do just fine on a lower salary—it’ll make things a little bit tighter with less margin for error (or unexpected disaster), but it should be possible.
anyway enough of that. it’s the weekend and I have three whole days off!!! my sister’s coming over tonight for a NYE sleepover… we’re going to watch glass onion and cook a delicious feast (aloo gobi, chickpea curry, homemade naan). today is supposed to be cool and cloudy with no rain. I would like to do the following things today:
HOME TASKS: empty & reload dishwasher, wipe down shelves and counters, clean out fridge, vacuum kitchen rug, take out recycling, give dogs their flea/tick meds
ERRANDS: get gas, drop off UPS packages, drop off USPS packages, do home goods return & look at pans, drop by target to grab groceries and a pan if home goods doesn’t have any good ones
EXERCISE: take dogs to a new neighborhood trail on my list and go for a short run after. or I’ve kind of been itching to rollerblade again… maybe I’ll try this paved trail near my house?
CREATIVE: read 30 pages of book, write at least 500 words
#blah blah blah#i have a tag on my period tracker app that’s like#‘tired of the sound of my own voice’#and that’s the mood lately lol
